Top Benefits of Facial Microneedling

Microneedling is a popular cosmetic procedure that is used to stimulate collagen in the skin in order to rejuvenate it. The process uses a handheld roller device that is covered with dozens of tiny sterilized needles. As the roller is moved across the skin, these needles create countless micro-injuries that stimulate the natural healing processes, part of which is the acceleration of the production of collagen and elastin – two crucial building blocks for new, healthy, and strong skin.

Microneedling is most often performed on the face, but it can also be performed on other areas of the body including the neck and back of the hands. The results of micro-needling aren’t evident immediately as they rely on your natural body processes. You may start to see an improvement in the way that your skin looks around 7-10 days following treatment, but the most dramatic results will not be visible until around 4-6 weeks after your procedure.

What cosmetic issues can micro-needling help with?

Microneedling has been proven to be effective at helping to treat a variety of different skin-related issues. These include:

  • Acne

  • Large pores

  • Hyperpigmentation

  • Scarring

  • Poor skin texture

  • Sun damage

  • Fine lines and wrinkles

  • Reduced skin elasticity

If you are unsure if micro-needling will be an effective treatment for you, we strongly advise that you schedule a consultation appointment with our team to discuss your concerns.

What are the benefits of micro-needling?

There are a number of benefits associated with micro-needling, which include but aren’t limited to the following:

Minimally-invasive: Microneedling treatment does involve making small wounds in the skin. However, these are very small and so the treatment is considered to be minimally invasive, with virtually zero downtime and patients able to get back to their usual activities right away.

Minimal discomfort: Similarly, micro-needling causes minimal discomfort when compared to many other, more severe cosmetic treatments, such as a facelift. You will be offered a topical anesthetic ahead of your treatment, but many people find that they can tolerate the procedure with no anesthetic at all.

Low risk: There are very few risks associated with micro-needling compared to many other treatments. Possible complications include bleeding, bruising, infection, scarring, and pigment issues. However, your micro-needling treatment provider will explain the importance of following your aftercare guidelines which will mitigate these risks.

Improve skin elasticity: Over time, the aging process and the natural slowing of our production of collagen and elastin can cause the skin to lose elasticity and start to sag. Microneedling prompts the accelerated production of these components of healthy skin, helping to counteract drooping and rejuvenating your appearance.

Reduce fine lines and wrinkles: Fine lines and wrinkles also form part of the aging process, and again, these occur when skin loses its natural firmness. Microneedling has been shown to be an effective way of helping to minimize their appearance, helping skin to look smoother, firmer, and more youthful.

Improve skin texture and clarity: If acne, scarring, and rough or uneven skin texture are getting you down, micro-needling will help to increase the rate of cellular turnover, revealing smoother, healthier-looking skin beneath.
