What is Oral, Maxillofacial and Reconstructive Surgery?

Oral, Maxillofacial and Reconstructive Surgery involves the diagnosis and surgical (invasive and non-invasive) management of diseases, soft and hard tissue defects, injuries and deformities involving the mouth, jaws, teeth and facial bones. It integrates the disciplines of Dentistry and Medicine to optimize medical management with surgical skill. The education is extremely rigorous. After four years of college and another six or more years of dental and medical school, the doctor must complete an intensive, postdoctoral hospital-based surgical residency. Graduate Medical Evaluation involves a significant amount of time rotating through hospital services such as Internal Medicine, General Surgery, Plastic Surgery, Head and Neck Surgery, Neurosurgery, Trauma Surgery, the Emergency Room, Pediatrics, Psychiatry, Anesthesia and Radiology.

Surgical Experience

Dr. Lee is skilled and uniquely qualified to manage and treat various surgical conditions that involves both the functional and aesthetic aspects of the oral and maxillofacial region. The concentration of our surgical practice includes extraction of teeth, especially third molars (wisdom teeth), facial trauma, placement of dental implants, tumor and reconstructive surgery of the face, jaws and mouth, corrective jaw surgery, treatment of diseases (oral pathology) and infections of the oral and maxillofacial region and temporomandibular joint reconstruction of the oral cavity with the use of bone grafting and dental implants. He is considered a leader in implant therapy and is one of the most experienced dental implant surgeons in Hawaii.
